Booking Hair Appointments

After conducting further user research,
I enhanced the app to be more functional by allowing design elements and components to breathe, creating a more seamless and visually appealing experience. I focused on optimising one key user journey—from the loading page to the booking page—to showcase the entire process of finding and booking a service. This refinement emphasised ease of use, clarity, and efficiency, ensuring that users could navigate the platform effortlessly from start to finish.

Final Product

Following further user research, participants found the initial prototype somewhat cluttered and felt that having two separate explore pages was confusing. Additionally, the provider images on the search page were too small, making it difficult for users to clearly see the services offered. These were some of the key issues I addressed and iterated upon in the second prototype. The updated design provides users with a more streamlined, cohesive journey—from launching the app to booking an appointment—offering an improved user experience with enhanced clarity and usability.

Second Prototype

My passion for UI/UX design was enhanced by a personal challenge: finding hair providers who could work with my hair texture. Frustrated by the lack of a centralised platform and the reliance on social media, I envisioned a user-centred solution to streamline this process.

I aimed to create a seamless platform that allows users to locate hair providers, book and reschedule appointments effortlessly, and access a standardised price list. Additionally, the platform includes features for discovering and purchasing products suited to specific hair types and textures. Ensuring a consistent and smooth user experience across various web browsers.

The Vision & Purpose

  • Current websites often feature products and advice primarily tailored to straight or wavy hair, neglecting curly, coily, and kinky hair types. Ensure the website features a diverse range of products and advice catering to all hair types, including straight, wavy, curly, coily, and kinky hair.

  • A seamless, efficient, and professional booking experience for hair appointments, enhancing user satisfaction and reliability while eliminating the need to navigate through social media for these services.

  • Implement advanced filtering and recommendation systems that allow users to easily find products suited to their specific hair type and concerns.

Defining goals

Competitor Analysis

I conducted a questionnaire to gather quantitative data on user preferences regarding hair appointment booking. The questionnaire consisted of four questions aimed at understanding users' willingness to book hair appointments through a website or app, their current booking methods, frequency of appointments, and desired features from such a platform.

Questions included inquiries about the feasibility of booking hair appointments online or via an app, current booking habits, appointment frequency, and desired features for a hairdresser/barber booking platform. This quantitative approach provided structured insights into user behaviours and preferences, contributing valuable data for informing the design and functionality of a hair appointment booking website or app.
